Little Pigs

Nov18

Warning: If you're a Twilight fan, I seriously recommend you stop reading now.  Nothing I say in this post is going to be something you'd like.

Fans all over are going to kill me, but I don't like Twilight.  In fact I would go so far as to say I loathe Twilight.  Yup.  I LOATHE Twilight.

I'm tired of seeing Twilight plastered all over every website imaginable, Twitter, Facebook, etcetera.  I was in Walgreens last night and there were Twilight bracelets, necklaces, and even an Edward doll.  An Edward doll? Really?

Everyone is talking about how they have their tickets to the midnight showing of New Moon.  Who cares?  You got a ticket.  Good for you.  There is no need to update your Facebook feed every 2 seconds squeeing like a little pig over it.

Yes, I said squeeing like a little pig.  Squeee, squeee, squeee is all I hear.  There are even GROWN WOMEN in my office who are squeeing over Twilight like it's the best thing since sliced bread.

I don't get it.  The whole premise of these books is about a girl who meets a guy and after one day is so head-over-heels for him that she must have him.  And if you ask me, ole Edward is a bit stalkerish.  Plus the author totally obliterates the world of vampires and turns them into cutesy-wootsey sparkly vamps.  Does Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, or Charlaine Harris ring any bells?  At least their vamps appropriately burst into flames when they come in contact with sunlight.

And I won't even get started on Breaking Dawn and my feelings on that literary disaster.  Not to mention the fact Bella actually begs for abusive sex in the book.  Yeah... a good role model for teenage girls.  Wait.  I'll stop.  I said I wasn't going to talk about Breaking Dawn.  Mainly because my blood pressure is rising at the mere thought.

I'll be so happy when the Twilight phenomena dies.  For my readers who made it this far and love Twilight, we are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.  I'll forever loathe Twilight.

Thank you!!! I don't loathe Twilight, nor am I obsessed with it. I liked it as far as movies go--it was entertaining--but that's about it. I've never read the books but from the previews of this second movie, it looks even cheesier than the first. And I love how I'm not the only one who thought that falling in love after a week, Edward being stalkerish, and vampires that sparkle were completely ridiculous.

Star, I think I love you. As a feminist and an English major, Twilight disgusts me. I'm getting so incredibly sick of not being able to get away from Twilight. I mean for god sakes, a grown woman at my office has a Twilight poster in her cube.

But there's so much fun to be gleaned but getting caught up in a trend!! Join us on the dark side, star, there's young sexy men and a sense of adventure.

The last book really sucked though. Meyer let her mormon show, and being a recovering mormon myself, I didn't really want any of that.

Veka and lildorothy - women of my own heart! Surely there are more of us out there.

hithatsmybike - I just don't get the Twilight madness (obviously). I don't get the obsession with Robert Pattinson either. He's just not cute at all to me. Everyone has their own tastes.

What do you mean by letting her Morman show? I ask honestly because I know nothing about the Morman faith other than there are lots of temples.

she's a BYU graduate -- I went there for my first year of university, it really messes with your head lol

But just how she didn't allow Bella & Edward to have sex before marriage, they're relationship was so chaste to whole way through (so unrealistic, so very mormon)
And how Bella wouldn't abort the pregnancy even though it was killing her (so irrational, so very mormon)

I guess those aren't specifically mormon so much as they are the beliefs of most/all Christian faiths..

OH and all the ludicrous debate/sorry-attempt-at-philosophical-discussion on the "fate" of Edward's soul since he's such an undead "monster". ARGH.

Man, I had forgotten all the parts I hated about the story, I've been focusing on the good for so long.. look what you've done, I'm practically on your side now.

hithatsmybike - you can do it! Just a few more inches and you'll be fully converted!

I feel like I need to avoid most of the actual Sugar sites and hide out in blog land, or else risk being inundated with images of the Twilight cast. Bleh.

That's interesting. Yeah, the whole Edward's soul thing really drove me batty. And their entire relationship. Probably why I don't like it... hmmm. Smiling

Like lildorthy said, just a few more inches... come back to the dark side!

I won't let you guys take this from me yet, I didn't even get a Team Edward t-shirt... I haven't actually been able to decide if I'm Team Edward or Team Jacob... at least let me have that much

One of my best friends is obsessed with Robert Pattinson... She now bases her entire love/dating outlook on that movie and won't settle for anything less than whatever "love" is defined as by that movie. Ugh.

Star, veka, and lil, I'm totally with you three! I don't just dislike Twilight, I am actively against it. I think the books are poorly written and I think the series gives young girls horrible ideas about love, self worth, etc.

I read a blurb about Twilight Moms the other day. These women frighten me.

man, I never think of clever selfless analytical things like how it will affect young girls.

I just wanted hot vampires and lots of sex (the ample supply of the former made up for the grotesque lack of the the latter).

I also gave up the argument against fluff literature a long time ago. I feel that so long as you enjoy weightier pieces & the classics, you're allowed to squander some of your time & braincells on shit.

I mean come on people, I'm employed as a scientist and I watch the Hills religiously. It's ok to indulge in junk!
